February's Boater's Tips -- Refinish Tips
We've all been there with broken screws. When they are in the deck, say at hatch hinges, you can't just drive a new screw next to the broken screw since it will never line up properly.

A screw extractor works best for this.

It fits into any drill and acts like a miniature hole saw. They come in a variety of sizes.

It will cut around the broken shank then allow you to remove it.

Now an appropriate sized dowel can be glued into the hole then cut flush. At this point the dowel can be finished to match the existing surface, and new wood is in place for the fastener.

Happy Boating!
